Service Description

A Record of Exemption report is a formal document prepared to demonstrate that specific building work qualifies as exempt under Schedule 1 of the New Zealand Building Act 2004. It is lodged with council to provide a clear record that the work does not require a building consent, while still ensuring transparency and accountability. The report typically outlines the scope of the work, references the relevant exemption clause, and provides supporting evidence such as photographs, plans, or technical notes. Councils use these reports to maintain accurate property files and confirm that the exemption has been properly assessed. Note that all our services incur a $65 travel fee.
